Strengthening Indigenous Business and Home Ownership
Partner
Indigenous Business Australia (IBA)
Challenge
IBA wanted to understand the deeper cultural, social and economic wellbeing impacts of the services they provide.
Approach
We worked with Eastern Arrernte lead evaluator Dr Kevin Dolman to design an impact framework and survey based on Interplay’s validated indicators and survey technology. Over 1,000 of IBA’s customers completed the survey over a 4-week period. Dr Dolman conducted subsequent interviews to collect further in-depth qualitative data. Interplay mapping was then applied to understand the interrelationships and pathways to impact.
Key Findings
Home ownership through IBA support is improving people’s lives through strengthening culture, empowerment, financial resilience and wellbeing.
Having a secure home gave people a safe place to host family, and practice and strengthen culture.
Business loans and the associated support provided by IBA have measurable impacts on their client’s personal empowerment, financial resilience and general wellbeing.
